UPDATE

Jarred Vanderbilt continued to practice on Wednesday, but his status for Thursday looks doubtful.

The Kentucky Wildcats are set to face the Kansas State Wildcats, though it remains to be seen if Jarred Vanderbilt will be available.

However, Kyle Tucker of SEC Country reports that Vanderbilt was able to practice on Tuesday, though it’s unknown how much work the freshman forward got in.

Even so, Vanderbilt practicing in any capacity is great news. If nothing else, it suggests he may very well play in the Final Four if UK makes it that far.

UK could definitely use him in Atlanta, but John Calipari isn’t letting his star forward play unless he’s close to 95-percent healthy.

While UK is favored to win the South Region, they could still really use Vanderbilt, especially against Kansas State in the Sweet 16. Those Wildcats are also set to a return an injured big man in Dean Wade, who averages almost 17 points per game and is great at stretching the floor.

Having Vanderbilt, who is UK’s best defender, to help cover Wade could be the difference in who wins Thursday’s matchup. However, UK will have to be careful in re-incorporating Vanderbilt back into the lineup, as the Cats have had their best stretch of the season while he’s been sidelined.

This is why Calipari is paid the big bucks.
