“The best player in Ohio” will suit up for Kentucky this year.

The Kentucky Wildcats will have Lynn Bowden, arguably their best recruit in the Class of 2017.

According to KSR, the NCAA has cleared Bowden, paving the way for him being practicing in fall camp.

The 6-1, 185-pound Warren G. Harding product is one of Mark Stoops’ highest-ranked recruits since coming to Lexington. He picked UK in January while holding offers from Penn State, Michigan, West Virginia, Michigan State, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Nebraska among others. Ohio State even offered Bowden at the horn, but he stuck with UK to the end.

“I’ve been here 29 years. I’ve seen them all come through here from Mario Manningham, Maurice Clarett and Daniel “Boom” Herron. Lynn is at the top of that class,” Harding head coach Steve Arnold told SEC Country.

Bowden was ranked 60th overall by Scout.com, 110th by 247, and 191st by Rivals.com for the 2017 class. 247 also ranks Bowden as the third-best overall recruit from Ohio. He’s drawn comparisons to former UK star Randall Cobb, and you can bet that’s the kind of role he’ll have in Lexington.

"I will go on the record as saying we signed the best player in Ohio,” recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow said on National Signing Day. "Lynn Bowden is the best player in Ohio."

Bowden is expected to play multiple positions and have a big role in the offense as a true freshman. Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw has already said there will be Wildcat QB packages built in for the game-breaking athlete.

UK misses out on two of their top 2017 targets on Signing Day.

The Kentucky Wildcats have missed out on their last remaining targets in 2017 that were previously uncommitted.

Four-star wide receiver Danny Davis committed to the Wisconsin Badgers on National Signing Day. This comes after UK had been viewed as the leader in Davis' recruitment for several months, but Wisconsin was able to come out on top.

Davis, who comes from Springfield High School in Ohio, is ranked by Rivals.com as the 98th-overall recruit in the 2017 class. He holds offers from Michigan State, West Virginia, Penn State, Iowa and Nebraska among many others.

Despite the miss, UK was able to sign three-star receiver Clevan Thomas, four-star receiver JaVonte Richardson, four-star athlete Tyrell Ajian, three-star athlete Joshua Ali, three-star receiver Isaiah Epps, and four-star athlete Lynn Bowden, so this loss doesn't hurt quite that bad.

Elsewhere, four-star tackle Thayer Munford committed to Ohio State earlier in the day. His recruitment was down to the Wildcats and Buckeyes.

Munford, who hails from Washington High School in Massillon (OH), is ranked by 247 as the 222nd-best prospect in 2017 in addition to a four-star rating. His offer sheet includes the likes of Alabama, Michigan State, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Miami (FL), and Maryland among others.

Mark Stoops and his staff came very close to pulling this one off. Munford took his official visit to UK during the weekend of the UCLA hoops game, which went very well by all accounts, enough that UK was viewed as the strong favorite.

But a late offer from dream school Ohio State was ultimately the deciding factor. It always stings to miss out on guys like Munford and Davis late in the recruiting cycle, but that's what happens when you go toe-to-toe with the big boys.

Phil Hoskins is just what UK’s defensive line needed for next season.

One of the biggest needs for UK in 2017 was defensive line help.

Not only does Phil Hoskins give them this, but the big defensive tackle also has the potential to play this coming season. The three-star JUCO linemen signed with UK while holding offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Houston, Mississippi State, and Oklahoma State among others.

247 has Hoskins ranked as the fourth-best JUCO defensive tackle in addition to being the 43rd-best JUCO recruit in 2017. While he may not have the same hype as some other UK signees, Hoskins may end up contributing in 2017 as much as any new Wildcat.

Here is his official UK bio:

Phil Hoskins, Defensive Lineman, 6-5, 280, So-Tr, Toledo, Ohio (Whitmer/Highland CC) – Strong junior college prospect … Was a three-star recruit by all of the major recruiting services out of high school before going to junior college … Among JUCO players, Scout ranks him 77th overall, while ESPN ranks him the No. 11 defensive tackle in the nation … Redshirted the 2016 season … Had 25 tackles his freshman season at Highland (Kan.) with eight TFL and four sacks in playing multiple positions along the defensive line … Named Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) All-Conference honorable mention as a senior in 2014 at Whitmer, playing for coach Jerry Bell … Has a wing span of 84 inches … Has three years of eligibility remaining … Chose Kentucky over Arkansas, Baylor, Mississippi State, Houston and Oklahoma State.

Coach Stoops says: “Phil has great size and length. He has shown the ability to rush the passer. We’re excited that he comes in as a junior college player with three years of eligibility remaining.”

The Wildcats signed 24 out of 24 of their commitments in one of Stoops’ best class.

With National Signing Day all but wrapped up for the Kentucky Wildcats, Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow, along with the rest of the coaching staff, put the finishing touches on a top 25 recruiting class.

According to Rivals.com, the Wildcats are sitting at #25, right in front of the Louisville Cardinals at #26. What other teams did the ‘Cats beat out? Mississippi State, Arkansas, Michigan State, Baylor, and Texas, just to name a few.

Thanks to four star commits like Lynn Bowden, Joshua Paschal, JaVonte Richardson, and Tyrell Ajian, UK finished with one of their best ever class under coach Stoops.

Last season, the ‘Cats were #29, in 2015 they were #34, in 2014 they were #18, and in 2013 they were #29. As you can see, they have been hovering in the top 30’s in the Stoops era outside of 2015.

It cannot be understated how valuable the end of the season was for this team. With seven wins, a victory over a top 25 Louisville Cardinal team at their house with the Heisman Trophy winner on their team, and a New Years Eve Bowl, Stoops was able to keep the class together and even make a late recruiting run in December and January.

The ‘Cats had early decommits at the beginning of the season with guys like Russ Yeast, Mac Jones, and Michael Warren dropping out, but they recovered nicely and put an exclamation point on 2016.

The class is heavy on offensive athletes and defensive linemen, two areas that are always in need.

Now the challenge is to keep momentum rolling in 2017 as most of the team is returning and expectations are higher than ever to again reach a bowl game.

Update: The Wildcats have the twenty-ninth best recruiting class according to 24/7. They have the thirty-third best class according to Scout.com.
Despite some unexpected suspense, UK keeps hold of the big-time pass-rusher.

The Kentucky Wildcats have managed to keep Jordan Wright.

Despite a late push from Miami, not to mention Wright teasing a possible flip, UK was able to keep the big-time defensive end. In addition to the Hurricanes, Wright held offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and USC among many others.

Here is his official UK bio:
