John Calipari is the NABC Coach of the year. This is both unsurprising and very well deserved. Coach Cal has done perhaps his most impressive coaching job ever by avoiding the pitfalls of egos in a roster stuffed with talent.
I am glad to see that many people are starting to recognize just how difficult it is to coax all these high-school stars to play so selflessly. Congratulations to Coach Cal on a richly-deserved honor.

This cannot be remembered too often.
Your Quickies:
Kentucky football
- C.J. Conrad and Darryl Long look to return the tight end position to prominence for Kentucky.
Kentucky basketball
-
Cheik Diallo wants more than 20 minutes per game. Well, he may have to look somewhere other than Kentucky, but I guess that depends on who comes back.
-
Even Coach Cal needs a little coaching every now and then, or more correctly, perhaps, a little help with the "soft" aspects of the job.
-
John Calipari gets a bonus for getting his kids to the Final Four, but it’s not from the University of Kentucky Athletics program. This is interesting, but it kind of flies in the face of performance-based pay. In Coach Cal’s case, though, it actually makes sense. We expect to be at or near the top, and he is definitely getting that job done.

Apparently, charges were never filed against Rex Chapman in the Arizona shoplifting case, according to this report:
Jerry Cobb, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, told WDRB News that after reviewing the case, prosecutors did not file charges and have sent the case back to police for further investigation.
Interestingly, this has not been reported anywhere that I know of until now. I wonder why? I think it’s important, don’t you? Hat tip: Aaron’s blog.

Who’s the best Final Four coach? Amazingly, a Duke writer picks John Calipari. I must confess, that floored me. Don’t miss it.

Tom Izzo doesn’t think Calipari gets enough credit. To be honest, I think that’s changing — gradually, but noticeably.
