Tonight is the College Football Playoff championship game between Oregon and Ohio State. SB Nation has seven things to know about the game here.

UK's win margin comes down to earth the more UK strays from what worked earlier. Just saying' @MyKSR1 @GottliebShow pic.twitter.com/4MibYWjoWT

Indeed. But that’s probably not why. The correlation/causation conundrum. What hurting UK now is shot selection

Cuppycup at Good Bull Hunting thinks Kentucky has the second-best quarterback situation in the SEC next season.

Coach Cal got an eyeful of Malik Newman the other day as he scored 35 on Huntington Prep. He’s the only remaining 2015 guard with a UK scholarship offer.
-
Rodrick Rhodes, who most of you will remember from the Rick Pitino years, has words of wisdom for Andrew Harrison.
-
Trey Lyles is not sure why the energy wasn’t there the other night for the Wildcats. I’m not sure it was all energy.
-
Dakari Johnson doesn’t think Kentucky would’ve won a game like Texas A&M last year. I think he’s right, and I think this is an important point. Winning games on the road when you don’t play well is something that great basketball teams do. Accomplishing that doesn’t necessarily make this a great team, but it is a checkoff on the list.

Update on Janee Thompson, and it’s not good. Her leg was broken as well as her ankle dislocated.
Also, Matthew Mitchell was ejected from the game, and this is what he said about that:
"I can’t comment with anything that goes on with officiating, that’s just against the rules," he told reporters after the loss. "You guys can look at the game and you can make your own judgments. I would love to have a good discussion with you, but that’s not allowed."
That’s really all he can say without spending major money. I don’t blame him, it’s not worth it.

Oregon State upsets Arizona. This is why I love conference play. When you’re in the family, everybody knows you, your tendencies, everything.
-
Wisconsin, absent Frank Kaminsky, lost to Rutgers last night. I’m not sure if that says that Wisconsin needs Kaminsky to beat a middling conference team, or if Rutgers was just a Hot Team™
-
Mike DeCourcy complains about the live-ball timeout rule that allows a timeout to be presumed to have occurred before a basketball play. I think this is a defensible position, although I’m not as bothered by live ball timeouts as DeCourcy is. It probably deserves some debate, although I confess, it doesn’t really bug me that much.

What happens when five top-ten teams lose in a week? Chaos! There, saved you a click.

Louisville is still smarting from their loss in Chapel Hill, but they’re trying to move on. Hey, you wanted to be in the ACC, and now you are. Be careful what you wish for.

Bruins Nation is having a bit of trouble being happy when their team plays well.

Team Speed Kills has noticed the advent of basketball season, and has some observations about Week 1.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is the heart, soul, and future of the Hornets. Apparently, MKG is having an outstanding season and nobody’s noticing. Consider:
A lot of the credit for Kidd-Gilchrist’s improved offense goes to the work he put in with assistant coach Mark Price in the offseason. He and Price worked tirelessly on completely rebuilding his jumpshot from the ground up, to the point where it looks almost nothing like it did last season. Clifford even remarked that he’s never seen such a dramatic improvement in a player’s jumper in his entire coaching career, let alone over just one season.
This is a young man who will work until the end of time to get better.
-
Lots of fussing going on about the Dez Bryant incompletion and its aftermath. Hey, I’m not an NFL fan, so I really don’t care. It looks to me like the rule was properly interpreted. Whether or not it’s a good rule is irrelevant at the moment.
But it seems the officials forgot to reset the clock. I’ll bet that’s the first time that’s ever happened < / sarcasm >
