Very sorry to hear that former Texas Longhorns coach Mack Brown’s house in North Carolina burned to the ground, likely taking all his Texas memorabilia with it. That’s a tragedy on multiple levels, and we wish Coach Brown a quick recovery from this personal disaster.

Mark Stoops’ final words before Ohio. Both Braylon Heard and Javess Blue look unlikely to be available.
-
ESPN thinks Kentucky will eke out a 2-touchdown win over Ohio and give up 24 points in the process. I hope it’s better than that, but based on the last two seasons, I really can’t complain.
-
Paul Jordan at Wildcat Blue Nation says that UK has a lot to prove this weekend. I think he’s right about this. We all get the fact that UT-Martin was an FCS team, and hardly a championship contender at that. Ohio is a MAC team, a very solid mid-major football conference and has a legendary coach in Frank Solich. If UK wants to make a football statement before the SEC, this game would be the time.
-
The Kentucky Kernel says Kentucky’s skill is too much for the Ohio Bobcats.
-
Mark Stoops was very, very happy with practice this week:
"I hope we have the same eagerness to go out there and play and the same enthusiasm," Stoops said. "I expect that we will. They’ve had a great week of practice. I just don’t want any letdown mentally."

- 2015 UK target Stephen Zimmerman, when asked about why he and so many other recruits will make visits to UK and Kansas at the same time, said that it’s just "the way it worked out."

The NCAA and 11 Division I conferences filed a motion to dismiss a group of lawsuits challenging the NCAA’s limits on the number of scholarships. It seems reasonable to me that the NCAA should be able to limit scholarships.

SEC morning links from ESPN. The Butch Jones tweet was very cool.

Louisville lands 5-star stud Antonio Blankney to their 2015 class. This is looking like Rick Pitino’s best haul in many, many years, perhaps ever at Louisville. And I note, without much pleasure, that this was a head-to-head win over Kentucky and John Calipari.
-
Jim Calhoun to join ESPN’s basketball coverage. Just what we need — another crusty old curmudgeon to add to the existing group of crusty old curmudgeons I’m looking at you, Bob Knight).

Arkansas-Little Rock’s Director of Athletics resigned after a recording was discovered in which he made "inappropriate" comments about the mother of one of A-LR’s student-athletes. It’s exactly what you’d expect — a verbal leer. Open mics are a bitch, buddy.
-
You’ve perhaps heard of Geno Auriemma’s telephone call to congratulate little league phenom Mo’ne Davis, as he was ratted out by some other person, apparently a rival coaching staff. The NCAA has declared it a secondary violation. This is another case where the NCAA bylaw is absurdly, and probably unintentionally overbroad.

I’m so glad DeMarcus Cousins made the Team USA roster. He really seems to be enjoying himself.
-
Randall Cobb had a big game last night against the Seahawks. A2D2 must be ecstatic.
