Tweet of the morning
Duke assistants hired as head coaches. UK freshmen besides the best one alway taken in 1st round. Maybe branding matters. Even in sports.

Not to be flip, but, ya think?
Your Quickies:
Kentucky football
-
Kentucky commit Alex Stump gets an offer from Ohio State. That’s not what I want to hear.
-
C-J columnist Adam Himmelsbach thinks UK finally wins an SEC game this weekend. I do also.
-
Kentucky-South Carolina gets a prime-time kickoff spot. Nice. Even nicer if we pull the upset, which looks eminently more doable now than earlier this season.
-
Senior Max Godby named to Allstate Good Works Team. Congrats, Max!

The Courier-Journal issues an apology for the John Calipari photoshop as a whining brat. Coach Cal graciously accepted via Twitter, and he’s right that the C-J didn’t have to do that, and most newspapers wouldn’t have. Your mileage may vary, but I’m inclined to just let it go, and it’s not as if I could retaliate even if I were so inclined — I haven’t taken that paper in fifteen years. I thought the photoshop was humorous, but it was clearly over-the-top and had the feel of a political cartoon without the benefit of being an illustration.
As apologies go, it seems sincere enough, I guess. Those who want somebody’s head to roll will surely be disappointed, though. Judging by the scare quotes he uses, it seems that Matt Jones is not buying. Of course, he’s wedded to the idea that the C-J is run by Turtleneck Tommy. NBC Sports hopes this is the last of this kerfuffle.
-
Isaiah Briscoe (point guard, 2015) talks about his visit with Coach Cal. This kid is exactly the kind of point guard Calipari normally signs.
-
Blue-White scrimmage tickets go on sale Sept. 29th. Let the carnage commence.
Other UK sports
-
Baseball recruiting class ranked #14. I’ll definitely take that, especially considering only three SEC teams had higher ranking classes; LSU (#1), Florida (#3) and Mississippi St. (#6).
-
Men’s soccer goalie Callum Irving wins his second straight C-USA Defensive Player of the Week.

Could Lane Kiffin succeed Nick Saban at Alabama? Please, God, let this happen. It would make for endless easy writing.
-
Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah says Jameis Winston needs to work on his maturity. You think? You mean it’s not mature to yell an obscene phrase loudly in front of a crowd of people, over and over? Who knew?
-
Charlie Strong has now dismissed nine players from the Texas Longhorns team, and ESPN wonders if he’s in danger of losing the locker room completely.
-
Injured former Southern Cal player sues USC (west) and Lane Kiffin.
College basketball
- Nebraska signs a 4-star player — in basketball. I think the Cornhuskers are making some good moves on the hard court with their program these days.

If you watched the NFL on Sunday, you are a bad person:
That’s how the Morality Police wants you to feel. In the wake of Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Roger Goodell’s bumbling responses, it believes anyone who so much as watches an NFL game should be ashamed.
Sadly, this is so. The shaming of NFL fans has only just begun, too. Via RealClearSports

Doron Lamb signs with the Dallas Mavericks. Great news for Doron, who’s been struggling to find a spot in the NBA. It’s a non-guaranteed contract, but hopefully he can stick.
-
Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck says Rajon Rondo is not the most "coachable" player. When he was here, he also had issues with being stubborn. Seems like that hasn’t changed.
