To hear Randall Cobb refer to himself as "an embarrassment" will provoke many in the Big Blue Nation to rally around him in his defense. But he did have a very poor game by his, or any other quality wide receiver’s standards Sunday:
"Our defense played their butts off tonight," Cobb said. "We did nothing for them. It was kind of embarrassing as an offense, embarrassing myself the way I played.
"I have to do more, I have to give this team more. I have to look in the mirror first and see where it is that I can do to help this team out."

Ira Combs talks about last week’s game:
After (3) games worth of evaluations I’m convinced this team has several SEC style playmakers both offensively & defensively and they are much better across the roster in the all important departments of size , speed , and athleticism . Yet , were still a few players away from being solidly entrenched into top 20 status , but UK is close ……… oh so close to something special .
I think he’s mostly right. I’m not so sanguine about "something special" except in a relative sense. But then again, I’d take that with pride.
-
Mikel Horton happy to be playing in the SEC. We’re just happy he’s playing for Kentucky.
-
Former Wildcat Dyshawn Mobley is making it happen at EKU. Very impressive stuff.
-
Kentucky’s success diluted by the perception of the SEC West as the best of the two. I don’t worry about that so much. I think it just gives UK an opportunity to get better, not having to play the hardest schedule around.

The kerfuffle that just won’t die — still more on the dustup over Team USA recruiting advantage. Again, I think these reporters are asking the wrong question.
-
UK recruit Malik Newman’s idea of a good time is a late night workout in the gym. Hard not to like that.
-
Yahoo! criticizes Courier-Journal’s photoshop of Calipari that we discussed the other day. Consider:
Most importantly, it’s not fair to Calipari. Though Jim Boeheim accused Calipari on Wednesday of complaining to both him and USA Basketball about the extra access to prospects that Duke and Syracuse coaches receive, the Kentucky coach has never publicly made any such statement. In fact, he handled Boeheim’s comments with class on Thursday in a string of tweets.
I think this is an important point. We’re taking Boeheim’s word that Calipari really said that, and even if he did, he didn’t utter it for public consumption.

John Calipari thanks the record number of campers at the Big Blue Madness campout.

Will Muschamp is #2 on the coaches hot seat list after Week 4. I think he’d still be in the top ten even if he had marched into Tuscaloosa and defenestrated the Crimson Tide.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State ranked together for the first time since 1999.

Bench Florida’s Jeff Driskel and LSU’s Anthony Jennings? ESPN’s Edward Aschoff says yes.

These alternate uniforms are getting out of hand. Word. Give me some throwbacks, please.

Johnny Miller not a big fan of Tom Watson’s rider cup picks. I’m okay with them, although I think he could have done a bit better.
