Kentucky Wildcats Morning Quickies: Tiger Woods Edition

Tiger Woods is healthy again, apparently, and once again has decided to rebuild his swing to something more like he had when he was younger. Interesting.

I also liked this quote:

“Father Time is undefeated. We all eventually are losing some of the things we are able to do when we were younger. As an athlete, yeah, you do notice these things,” Woods said. “We all have to make adaptations as athletes, and we have to make adjustments. And I’m no different.”

Indeed.

Kentucky football

• Is Vince Marrow in line for the Youngstown State head coaching job? I’d really, really, really hate to lose him.

• Mark Stoops says the team did grow this year:

  “We did grow. We did get better. There’s no denying that,” Stoops insists, and with simple math to back up the claim. UK won more games this season than the previous two combined. “Are we where we want to be? No. Everybody wants to be better, and we’re all going to work toward that. But I really like this group. I really like coaching them, and they kind of set the tone on where we’re headed.”

  I think we did grow, and improve. Next year, though, the pressure will be on.

• Ryan Timmons has surgery to remove a bone spur.

• UAB ending it’s football program affects Kentucky’s schedule for 2016.

• Miami offensive coordinator James Coley is “not the right fit at UK,” according to a university source, and Mark Stoops says he has “no intention” of talking to him.

  That seems to suggest that Kentucky has no intention of changing to a pro-style offense, which I think would be a mistake.

• Mark Stoops is losing seven key defensive players after this season. Hopefully, the more talented up-and-comers can step up and fill their shoes.

Kentucky basketball

• Kentucky’s next opponent, Texas, didn’t exactly make mincemeat out of UT-Arlington like Kentucky did.

• Based on the early returns, this Kentucky team looks different from any in the Calipari era.

• Kentucky walk-ons Sam Malone and Tod Lanter have been suspended due to a violation of team rules.

• Hoops plays Northern Kentucky tonight.

• Lauren Cumbess will return to UK softball as a graduate assistant coach.

• Rupp Arena will serve as the host for the NCAA regionals in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

• So Louisville is pulling the ACC’s fat out of the fire in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge? Wait until we get hold of them.

• Louisville’s win over Ohio State answers questions for both teams, according to Jeff Eisenberg.

  The only question it answered for me is that that neither one of them can score against top competition. Ohio State has managed under 110 points/100 possessions its last three games. Louisville is worse, having topped 110 point/100 possessions only twice all season.

• Comparing Jahlil Okafor to Connie Hawkins is “insane,” according to an NBA scout. Hawkins, in case you don’t remember, was doing the finger-roll and one-armed swoop long before the Iceman or Dr. J.
