Kentucky football

• Stanley "Boom" Williams has been named to the Sporting News’ All True Freshman team as a kick returner. That’s funny, because that wasn’t even what he did best this season. I guess they needed to put him somewhere.

• John Clay on the Shannon Dawson hire. He helps flesh out Will’s story a little bit with some timeline details of Dawson’s experience.

  Coming in year 3 where the Wildcats are expected to be significantly better could be perfect timing for him and the program.

• Smoking Musket, SB Nation’s West Virginia Mountaineers blog, hasn’t yet noticed the departure of Shannon. They just lost their AD to the NCAA. I suppose that is a bigger deal.

Kentucky basketball

• Kentucky and UCLA after Adolph Rupp and John Wooden. Kentucky has 3 championships and 2 runner-ups since UCLA won their last title.

• On this date in 1930, The Baron made his coaching debut at the University of Kentucky, setting in motion an unbroken chain of excellence in college basketball.

  This should be a Kentucky state holiday. I’m taking the day off to go Christmas shopping.

• Men’s soccer’s Callum Irving named College Scholar All-American, one of the highest academic honors in the sport.

• I think it’s fair to say that Bo Pelini, former Nebraska head coach, did not like working for his director of athletics at Nebraska. If I were a Nebraska fan, this would be a concern.
