One of the most-noticed things from videos and photos of Kentucky basketball’s early practices this summer has been the fact that the players are wearing Jordan Brand gear.

This led people to believe that Kentucky basketball would be switching to Jordan Brand uniforms, something we’ve seen from a few Nike schools lately (namely Oklahoma and Florida).
But in the latest Meet the Wildcats podcast, TJ Beisner has clarified that Kentucky will not be switching uniforms, and the practice gear from Jumpman is a one-time deal.
This is a bummer for the folks who hate the checkerboard, although Mitch Barnhart likely would have ensured that the checkerboard find its way into a new Jordan uniform as well.
North Carolina has a similar pattern down the sides of its Jordan jerseys, and Kentucky’s likely would have looked similar. That’s probably part of the problem with Kentucky moving to Jumpman, as the Tar Heels are one of their biggest rivals, so using ‘the’ Tar Heel brand would probably rub a lot of people in Lexington the wrong way.
So for now at least, Kentucky will continue rocking Nike, and continue rocking the checkerboard.
Be sure to listen to a lot more tidbits Beisner shared on his latest episode, which includes some good nuggets on the current team, and that they’ll be facing Kyle Wiltjer in the Bahamas.
