Well, now we wait.
Kentucky came up short of getting their SEC Tournament Championship by dropping a game to the Texas A&M Aggies. Their first loss to that team this season in three contests. I had many concerns about this game, simply because A&M is an extremely talented team, and keeping them down and out for three games in a year looked virtually impossible.
Then again, the chance that UK would have beaten the Aggies was just as good. Cold shooting and some mistakes along the way put UK behind after they went in at halftime leading TAMU. Had Kentucky won this game, they were a shoo-in for a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Now, alas, that is no longer a certainty. UK will have to sit and wait to see how much the committee will hold this loss against them.
Hats off to A&M for playing a smart game and coming back from a halftime deficit to win the game in their first year in the SEC. That is a major accomplishment for their program. They did an awesome job of keeping UK outside and making them shoot threes when they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
It has been an amazing SEC season for UK. They have nothing to be ashamed of, and they can look forward to a successful NCAA Tournament. Look for more of the same play we have seen for the last couple of weeks. Coach Mitchell can now get his team ready for their NCAA Tournament run. Congrats to the Wildcats for they have accomplished so far this season.
