After a nailbiter on Saturday where the Cats didn't record a hit until the 7th inning, Sylver Samuel made sure history did not repeat itself by recording a hit on Kentucky's first at bat. The Cats went on to record another 6 hits and three runs to win the game 3-0, and make history with their first series win in Tiger Country.
In the circle, Meagan Prince showed why she has become as dangerous as her Wildcat sister Kelsey Nunley in staring down the opposition. Meagan hurled 79 strikes in 116 pitches, allowing five hits and three walks to go with 5 strikeouts. Megan's ERA is now 1.59 (was 1.7), which is simply outstanding.
I'm not entirely sure who will be in the circle for the Cats tonight. All due respect to Shannon Smith, but I'm not sure I'd put her in as she's only pitched 3 games all season. I suspect it will be Kelsey Nunley, with Meagan picking up duties for EKU on Wednesday so Kelsey can start against #13 Mizzou on Friday in Lexington. As to the lineup, I'd be shocked to see Rachel Lawson change a thing. Sylver Samuel is absolutely the best choice for lead off we have (she's now hitting a .394 on the season). Our freshman won't improve without experience facing SEC pitchers, and our veterans are continuing to improve their offensive results. In short, if it ain't broke? Don't fix it.
As for LSU, I suspect we'll see Sydney Smith tonight at pitcher. She's currently listed with a .86 ERA, and 7 wins in 9 games. That said, if Carley Hoover is in the circle I won't be shocked...she had an incredible game against the Cats Saturday that just came up a tick short.
Tonight's game is set to be a good one, as the Tigers will be desperate to salvage their pride in preventing the sweep and the Cats will be looking to try and move up towards one of those top #8 spots to earn hosting a Super Regional in May. This is a game you won't want to miss. First pitch is set for 7 PM EDT on the SEC Network. Hope to "see" you there!
