US PRESSWIRE

The road to Oklahoma City and the Women's College World Series starts Friday for our Hittin’ Kittens! Your Kentucky Wildcats host Ohio in the second game of the Lexington regional.

"For Kentucky to be able to host a NCAA Regional for the second consecutive season, speaks to the hard work and dedication from our student-athletes, coaches and administration. We will host some really good teams this weekend at John Cropp Stadium and we will need the Big Blue Nation to come out in full force to help create a home-field advantage." -UK Head Coach Rachel Lawson

So, what do we know about our first foe, the Ohio Bobcats?

The Cats in Green won their first-ever MAC conference tournament title last Saturday, where they delivered a perfect 4-0 performance in their double elimination tournament. A large part of this win rested on the shoulders of sophomore pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey, who went 4-0 with four complete games and three straight shutouts. Savannah Jo pitched a perfect game against Ball State and topped it off with a 13-inning shutout against Buffalo. She fanned 46 while allowing one earned run on 18 hits and six walks. Overall she limited opposing batters to a .153 ERA. Small wonder she walked away with the 2014 MAC Tournament MVP!

The Wildcats and Bobcats have some history on the diamond, as this will be our seventh face off to date. The last time these teams met, Kentucky clawed their way to a doubleheader sweep in Lexington in 2006. The Cats in Blue own the series 6-1, with Ohio's sole victory a 7-6 nailbiter in 1998.

Our players to watch include our own sophomore pitching phenom Kelsey Nunley, and her key partners in awesomeness Nikki Sagermann, Lauren Cumbess, and Christian Stokes.
