The Florida Gators vs. Kentucky Wildcats battle extends beyond last week’s gridiron battle in the Swamp.
Scottie Lewis, one of the top wings and best defenders in the 2019 class, was just at Florida for an official visit with the Gators, and he’s set to visit Kentucky this weekend.
The belief is this recruitment is essentially down to Florida and Kentucky. Mike White and the Gators are in good positioning in the recruiting spectrum after recently getting a commitment from Tre Mann.
Predictions from 24/7 Sports have Florida landing Lewis with little doubt, which now includes Evan Daniels, who logged his pick for Florida on Tuesday.
That came just hours after Florida landed a walk-on commitment from combo guard Alex Klatsky.
Why is that significant?
Klatsky from the Ranney School in Eatontown (NJ), the same high school where Lewis goes. The two are good friends and will be teammates again this upcoming season. Apparently, having Klatsky at Florida has strengthened their lead for Lewis.
It may only be a matter of time before Lewis is a Gator. According to Corey Evans, Lewis could be ready to announce after visiting Kentucky this coming weekend.
“Down to a final seven, Kentucky and the Gators are thought to be the top contenders for his commitment,” wrote Evans. “But UF could have a slight lead, and after his visit to UK next week, he might be close to calling it a day.”
Lewis is an exceptional athlete at 6’5” and 185 pounds. More than anything else, Lewis is a profound defender on the wing. He is a can’t miss prospect coming out of New Jersey and a potentially scary fit with the rest of Kentucky’s current 2019 class.
However, it looks like Florida is the big favorite now before he visits Lexington. This appears to be a tough battle for John Calipari and co. to win, but if anyone can do it, it’s them.
