Five-star small forward Keion Brooks seemed likely to end up as one of the top stars in Kentucky’s 2019 class.
UK was trending upward for the No. 22 player in the class (according to 247 Sports), but the latest rumors surrounding his recruitment aren’t favorable for the Cats.
Rivals recently posted a list of predictions on top recruits, and none of their analysts picked Kentucky for Brooks. Three of them predicted Indiana, and the fourth predicted Michigan State.
In addition to that, Kentucky Sports Radio recruiting expert TJ Walker said he “heard some not-so-great news” regarding Brooks and Kentucky.
Kentucky hasn’t totally fallen out of contention with Brooks. Walker actually offered some reassuring comments:
Those close to UK basketball aren’t concerned. Not at this early stage in his recruitment. Kentucky still figures to be at or near the top and Brooks is expected to officially visit Kentucky this fall.
But those on the AAU circuit seemed to speculate that Indiana leads for Brooks.
With Archie Miller landing Romeo Langford for the Indiana Hoosiers, a successful year could really change the landscape for Indiana recruits.
Despite the buzz for Indiana, Michigan State is the favorite in Brooks’ crystal ball. The Spartans have 50 percent of Brooks’ predictions.
Brooks, a Fort Wayne, Indiana, native, stands 6-8, 185 pounds. He’s the only wing that Kentucky has offered in 2019, so the focus is still on the five-star Indiana native.
