As the recruitment of 2019 five-star prospects Vernon Carey and Bryan Antoine heat up, Kentucky is in the race for both, but the Duke Blue Devils still appear to be favored.
Kentucky has made the final five for each of them, as Carey’s list is Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina, Miami and Kentucky. Meanwhile, Antoine’s list is Duke, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky and Villanova.
Rivals expert Corey Evans gave an update on Carey that indicates that Kentucky still has a chance, but Duke is still the favorite for now.
Carey is down to a final five of Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina, Miami and Kentucky, Duke was thought to be in the pole position several weeks back and while the Blue Devils still are a favorite, the other four finalists should not be discounted, either. This isn’t a closed deal as many had believed before.
In a list of predictions from Rivals experts, Bossi, Corey Evans and Dan McDonald all predict that Carey will pick Duke. Krysten Peek is predicting North Carolina.
Evans said to look for a commitment sometime in the winter and a signing in April.
As for Antoine, Rivals expert Eric Bossi gave an update on his visit schedule. Antoine will make all his currently-scheduled visits from mid September to early November, visiting Kentucky on Sept. 22.
Bossi said that Antoine may not make it to his Kansas and Villanova visits, and Duke is currently the apparent favorite.
Realistically, there’s a good chance Antoine nevers make it to that November visit to Villanova and while a visit date may ultimately be set to Kansas, the Jayhawks look to be running behind in this one.
Antoine hasn’t named a leader yet, but headed into his visits, it appears Duke the early edge.
In the list of predictions from earlier, Antoine had two predictions for Duke and two for Villanova.
Carey is a 6-10, 275-lb power forward who is the No. 2 player in his class on the 247 Sports rankings. Antoine is a shooting guard who stands 6-5, 175 lbs. He’s ranked the No. 6 player in the class by 247 Sports. Duke is the favorite in both of their crystal balls, and Kentucky has 7 percent of the votes in Antoine’s predictions.
