UK in contact with Hunter Dickinson

The five-star big man is 7-foot-2 and drawing interest from the blue-blood programs.

John Calipari is going after a big 2020 recruit.

I don’t mean that by the ability of his game (although he is a five-star, top-20 player), but by his height. Hunter Dickinson, a 7-foot-2 center, has been in contact with John Calipari, according to Rivals’ Justin Rowland.

Dickinson is 257 pounds, and hails from Hyattsville, Maryland, where he plays high school ball at DeMatha Catholic. He’s ranked 20th in the 2020 class by 247 Sports, and is the No. 3 center. He currently has 13 offers, including the South Carolina Gamecocks, Maryland Terrapins, Stanford Cardinal and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels have also shown interest.

As you might expect, a lot of Dickinson’s game is around the rim. The 7-foot high schooler is a good foot taller than most of his high school opponents, and he finishes above the rim, grabs rebounds and blocks shots with ease. He even blocks 3-pointers without much difficulty.

To this point, Kentucky has extended scholarship offers to five-star wing Scottie Barnes and five-star center N’Faly Dante in the 2020 class. Kentucky is in good shape with Barnes, but Daly appears to be trending toward LSU. Perhaps that is part of why Kentucky is showing more interest in Dickinson.
