UPDATE
John Calipari watched Kahlil Whitney again on Thursday. After his most recent game, Whitney spoke with Rivals.com about UK’s interest and a potential visit to Lexington.
“I talked to coach (John) Calipari once and he talked to my family and I have talked to them about it. He said that he would love to have me on campus. I don’t know when I want to take an official or an unofficial, I’m not sure. But, I’ll be talking to my parents about that.”
It’s safe to think Whitney is now a legitimate target for UK in the class of 2019.
Kentucky may have a new target in the Class of 2019: Five-star wing Kahlil Whitney.
According to Whitney’s travel team, John Calipari was in to see Whitney on Wednesday at the NY2LA Sports Summer Jam. While we can only take away so much from ‘Coach A watched Player B,’ it is notable when Calipari is in attendance, especially with other recruiting events taking place (James Wiseman was in action around this same time, but Calipari watched Whitney instead).
Whitney, who is ranked the No. 13 player in 2019 at 247 Sports, stands at 6-6 and 190 pounds. He holds offers from the Kansas Jayhawks, Louisville Cardinals, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, Virginia Cavaliers and Oregon Ducks among many others. He plays at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic, which has produced Isaiah Briscoe,
To this point, Kentucky has been focused more on Keion Brooks as its top wing target in 2019, but he’s had an underwhelming summer thus far, while Whiney has been lighting it up. Perhaps Calipari is starting to look into other wings in this class.
Here are some recent highlights of Whitney in action:
