Five-star point guard Josiah James is a bit of an under-the-radar recruit, as he’s the only five-star recruit (on 247 Sports’ rankings) that doesn’t play in a shoe company league.
Despite that, John Calipari is still showing interest in James, according to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald Leader. And the interest is mutual.
“I know Coach Cal is one of the best coaches to ever do it,” James said, according to Roberts. “I know that the guys go there with one mission, and that’s a national championship. I know that they develop a lot over the year — or years — that they’re there. And I know it’s a good atmosphere. The fans are awesome. The students are awesome. I just know that about them.”
James is the No. 14 player in the class of 2019 on 247 Sports’ rankings, and the No. 2 ranked point guard. He’s tall for a point guard, standing 6-6, 195 lbs. He has 18 offers, including offers from the Duke Blue Devils, South Carolina Gamecocks, Auburn Tigers, Louisville Cardinals and Tennessee Volunteers. He was just recently named to USA Basketball’s U18 team.
Kentucky has not offered yet, but depending on how things play out with other guard targets in 2019, James could be someone to keep an eye on going into the fall.
