Tyrese Maxey has made it through all the cuts, and is a member of the USA Basketball U18 team.
Maxey will now be one of 12 players to suit up for the United States and travel to Canada to compete for a gold medal later this week in FIBA competition.
The 6-3 Kentucky commit will join 2019 UK targets Matthew Hurt (a 6-9 forward) and Cole Anthony (a 6-2 guard). They will be coached by Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self, who is also recruiting Anthony and Hurt. Duke is currently the favorite in Anthony’s crystal ball, while Kansas is currently the favorite in Hurt’s crystal ball.
Maxey is a five-star guard, currently ranked the No. 13 player in his class by 247 Sports. He committed to Kentucky on May 9.
Keion Brooks and Jalen Lecque, two players who John Calipari is targeting, both missed the cut. it’s unfortunate they won’t get to spend the next few weeks with Maxey, who has been actively recruiting them to join him at UK for the 2019-20 college basketball season.
Brooks has been having a great spring on the AAU circuit, so it was a tad surprising to see him fail to make the U18 squad. Lecque wasn’t much of a surprise, as guard was easily this group’s biggest strength.
