2019 Mr. Basketball candidate Dontaie Allen hopes to score UK offer

The rising senior already has multiple offers, but hopes statewide exposure next season will help him get on Coach Cal’s radar.

Pendleton County hoops star Dontaie Allen is doing everything in his power to land an offer from the Kentucky Wildcats.

Allen is a candidate for 2019 Kentucky Mr. Basketball after coming off a junior season in which he led the state in scoring (1,019 points), averaging a double-double on the season with 31.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.

Oh, and he did that while shooting 59% from the floor and a blistering 39% from three point range. The 6’7” small forward was one of three juniors to earn first-team all-state honors in the 2018 season.

Allen’s stellar play has allowed Pendleton County to receive invitations to a lot of big time tournaments this coming season, including the Marshall County Hoops Fest.

Said Coach Keaton Belcher of the invite (via Larry Vaught): “That is huge for us. Not many people here in Pendleton County have been to Marshall County, so going to Hoop Fest is a significant deal for us. Obviously, the big reason we got invited is Dontaie.”

Pendleton will also be playing in the Zip Zone Classic at Sheldon Clark High School in Martin County and the Ashland Invitational Tournament, Kentucky’s oldest Christmas tournament.

Coach Belcher is excited to expose his kids to all parts of the state, as well as give Dontaie some more exposure against some quality competition.

Allen is certainly turning heads in the college realm already. He hold scholarship offers from Purdue, Nevada, WKU, Xavier, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech; he’s also on the radar for a number of other teams, including UK.

Allen recently took an unofficial visit to UK and was impressed by what UK has to offer. Kentucky is his dream school and he’s hoping, with the work he’s already put in and the growing exposure across the state this coming season, he’ll land that offer from Coach Cal in the near future.
