Cole Anthony appears to be the latest top-level recruit to be legitimately linked to Kentucky, and that is all credited to UK commit Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey said in a recent interview that he had been recruiting Anthony to Kentucky while at an EYBL event. Turns out, the two happen to be good friends and are now teammates on the USA 18U National Team.
They aren’t disclosed to the idea of potentially playing together beyond this tournament either, as they both spoke about it with KSR after the USA’s 118-26 win over Panama.
“Down at the Final Four we talked a lot then,” Maxey said. “He’s really cool. He’s high energy. He’s very high energy and he’s always up. He’s a good friend to be around.”
Anthony, of course, feels the same way about Maxey.
“Man, I love Tyrese,” Anthony said. “He’s a high-energy guy. He’s always smiling. I love Tyrese. That’s my dude, I’d love to play with him at the next level.”
It certainly can’t hurt that John Calipari was in Canada to watch Anthony and other UK recruits perform in Monday’s demolition of Panama.
While Anthony is considered a Duke-lean at this point he insists that his recruitment is wide open. However, Maxey isn’t pressuring him too hardly either. While he says he jokes about Kentucky that he knows Anthony will make the best decision for him and his family.
Needless to say, a Tyrese Maxey and Cole Anthony backcourt in 2019 would be one of the most dominant forces in college basketball.
Just spoke to Tyrese Maxey, says he can’t wait to play in Rupp and is still talking to Cal every day. Also said he’s recruiting Keion Brooks, James Wiseman and Cole Anthony while he’s here #BBN— Justin Hodges (@HodgepodgeHoops) May 12, 2018
