The Class of 2019 will be an interesting one for Kentucky and John Calipari.
Kentucky is in the mix for several of the top 2019 recruits, but it won’t be easy. Kentucky is locked in a battle for several of those players.
Eric Bossi of Rivals recently listed his 10 most interesting recruiting battles to watch in the 2019 class, and it included several Kentucky targets.
The main Kentucky targets mentioned include Vernon Carey, Jr., James Wiseman, Cole Anthony, Matthew Hurt, and Keion Brooks.
Carey’s recruitment is down to Kentucky, Miami, Duke, North Carolina, and Michigan State. Bossi said that he believes Duke should be the frontrunner for Carey moving forward.
Wiseman is of course down to Kentucky and Memphis. Brooks will be a three-way battle between Kentucky, Michigan State, and home-state Indiana.
For Hurt, Bossi said that Kansas should be considered the leader, and Hurt was recently a finalist to make the cut for the USA U18 team coached by Bill Self. However, Kentucky, Minnesota, Duke, and UNC are also in the mix.
Anthony is the one that nobody really knows about, but Bossi said that the leader is probably Duke. Tyrese Maxey has been talking to Anthony about Kentucky and he recently told the Lexington Herald-Leader that he is considering Kentucky.
Kentucky is in really good shape with Wiseman and Brooks, and some think they are in better shape with Anthony and Carey than many realize. Hurt probably is leaning toward Kansas, Duke, or Minnesota, but he could certainly start to lean more toward Kentucky if they decide to pursue him even more.
This class has a lot of talent, and it will be interesting to see how it shapes out for the Wildcats.
