As the days roll on, the buzz for Kentucky continues to grow with Isaiah Stewart.
The recruitment of the 6-9, 245-pound center has taken off after John Calipari and his staff have made a late push to try and land the La Lumiere star, and for good reason. According to 247 Sports, Stewart is the No. 5 overall player in the 2019 class.
Stewart has taken two official visits to this point; one to Washington and one to Kentucky. But now that those visits are over, he isn’t sure what his next move is going to be.
In an article by Evan Daniels, Stewart said he doesn’t know what he is going to do with his recruitment at this point.
“Right now, I’m working on school work and focusing on the first practice, so we got practice coming up, USA coming up, I’m shifting my attention towards that for now and that’s about it”.
Daniels talked to Stewart about his visit to Kentucky and he had some high praises for the way Kentucky does things.
“Kentucky is another place I haven’t seen so I was pretty happy I go out there. Kentucky is Kentucky, you got to go there and bust your chops off. They have what you need so you just have to go there and take it”.
Stewart is the type of player that is always going to give 110% effort and is a gym rat. He always wants to be in the gym working on his craft and trying to make himself better. One thing that stood out to him was just how hard Kentucky goes in their workouts.
Kentucky has always been interested in Stewart, but their recruitment of him was amped up in recent weeks as they have tried to make a big push for him knowing they are likely going to lose several post players from this year’s team.
Even though Stewart has taken visits to just Washington and Kentucky, other schools on his list are Indiana, Michigan State, Duke, Villanova and Syracuse, but he hasn’t set any other dates to take visits.
Elsewhere, KSR’s TJ Walker gave a rather encouraging update on Stewart. Here’s an excerpt of it:
People I’ve spoken with close to Kentucky feel solid, but it seems like the “pro-Kentucky” sentiment is coming from those closer to Stewart, and that’s good news.
With it being folks close to Stewart that are most confident about UK’s chances that may mean this recruitment is close to being over. People close to Kentucky believe he is announcing in the fall.
The update makes it sound like Stewart may very well be a Wildcat by the time the fall signing period ends in November. It would be great if Kentucky can begin their season with an elite big man already locked up. They’ve already got their point guard in Tyrese Maxey to go with a great wing in Kahlil Whitney, not to mention Dontaie Allen looks like he’ll become a great multi-year player.
Adding Stewart to them mix would ensure Kentucky finishes with another great recruiting class under John Calipari.
