Payne signed this morning, along with several of his classmates, at a ceremony at Lexington Catholic this morning.
Zan is the son of Kentucky assistant coach Kenny Payne. He committed to Kentucky earlier this month after averaging 19 points and about 9 rebounds per game for LexCath this past season.
Payne finishes his career as a member of the 1,000 point club and is fourth all-time in rebounds.
Payne can play, and if not for an injury this past season, probably would have had multiple options to go somewhere and play on a scholarship. Kentucky should be very glad to have a talented player like Payne joining the roster.
Securing Zan Payne was nice, but also doesn’t bound Kenny Payne to Kentucky like many thought it might. However, it does help add another layer of comfort to Payne as he waits for the right head coaching opportunity to arise.
You have to think Calipari and Payne are more motivated than ever to win a championship in these next two years with both of their sons on the roster. Obviously it would be an incredible moment for those two to win a title with their sons on the roster.
