The Kentucky Wildcats will learn the fate of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this coming week.

According to KSR’s Matt Jones, Shai will announce his decision Tuesday evening. It’s almost certain to be that the freshman point guard will declare for the NBA Draft, and he may just go ahead and sign with an agent to end any suspense of him returning.

Gilgeous-Alexander became an unexpected star that UK desperately needed this season. He averaged 14.4 points, 5.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game. He was the third-most efficient shooter, shooting at a rate of 48.5 percent from the field. He was also the only player on the team to shoot 40 percent or better from 3-point range.

If this is the end, it was still a fun and memorable career in Lexington for the Canadian phenom. There was no doubt he was one of the best players in college basketball when the calendar turned to Match.

While UK had other contributors, it’s scary to think where the Cats would have been this season without him.

Sports Illustrated’s Jeremy Woo recently listed Shai as the No. 14 prospect on their big board. In Sports Illustrated’s latest mock draft, they have Gilgeous-Alexander going 13th to the Denver Nuggets, where he would team up with former Cats Jamal Murray and Trey Lyles.

Wouldn’t that be something.
