Kentucky Football: Friday Night Big Blue Lights

The Blue Lights Camp this Friday is a great chance for Kentucky to pick up some commitments.

Hopefully the Blue Lights camp won't be like last year's Arkansas game.

Another big recruiting week is upon us and it is probably the last until the season starts. The July 19th Friday night camp is limited to high school juniors and seniors. This camp is designed to enhance players’ skills as they prepare for their upcoming seasons in high school. The Kentucky coaches provide instruction for all offensive and defensive positions. The coaches will teach the same fundamentals that they teach the UK players and the finer points of each position. Discussions on what to expect during the recruiting process and a tour of the UK facilities will take place.

The majority of our 2013 and 2014 commitments will be in attendance as well as several players that Kentucky has offered who are still on the board.

As Glenn reported on Sunday, Georgia held their Dawg Night this past weekend and reported that Georgia received three commitments, two who had UK offers. A fourth (also a big UK target) committed on Sunday at the Florida HS 7v7 championship game. Offensive Lineman Isaiah Wynn from St. Petersburg Lakewood announced his commitment to Georgia during the Brighthouse Sports Network coverage of the game between Lakewood and Tampa Gaither. Wynn makes the 5th players that Kentucky has offered that has chosen Georgia over the Cats. Two others, Nick Glass and Dontavius Russell had already committed to Georgia before Kentucky made an offer. It is unlikely the Cats can "flip" them, but no one can say we didn't try.

If Kentucky can pick up one or more 2014 commitments from the Blue Lights camp, it will be considered a success. Kentucky currently has 19 commitments with another waiting in the wings (WR Tyre Brady) and a spot is being held open for DL Matt Elam who will announce at the Army All-American game in January. So, that's 21 potential commitments, leaving only four spots open if Kentucky signs a full class of 25. It is rumored, though, that Stoops could possibly sign up to 27 depending on the scholarship enrollments for August (the 2013 class in particular) and January 2014. The 2013 class is done, but there are some rumors that a few may not show up next month due to academics.

Here are some of the uncommitted players who are rumored to show up Friday are:

North Carolina 4* WR Braxton Berrios, South Carolina 4* WR Blake Bone, Florida 3* WR Garrett Johnson, Kentucky 3* DL Matt Elam, Georgia 3* ATH Stanton Truitt, Florida 4* WR Moral Stephens, and Kentucky 3* DE Lloyd Tubman (Vandy commit).

There are many players without offers that Kentucky is bringing in to evaluate.

Saturday, UK is holding a 7v7 passing camp for organized high school teams and also an OL and DL camp for grades 9-12. While these camps are not advertised as open to the public, I don't think the gates will be locked.

This weekend is the final weekend for camps. UK has held eight camps, including this one. For a complete list, go here: UK Athletics Football Camps.
