Wenyen Gabriel had a dunk of the year candidate thrown on him by Breein Tyree

Thankfully, Gabriel had one of his best games of the season to make up for it.

The Kentucky Wildcats defeated the Ole Miss Rebels by a 96-78 margin, but the road team had the highlight of the night.

Breein Tyree, which sounds like a Game of Thrones character, sent Gabriel into the pit misery with a posterization that should be a dunk of the year candidate:

It wasn’t necessarily the dunk as much as how hard it was for 6-2 Tyree to execute it with Gabriel and his 7-1 wingspan in pursuit.

Gabriel made matters worse by getting a really dumb technical foul by pushing Tyree, who had every right to celebrate his moment under the sun. It was actually one of five technical fouls called it what was a very chippy game.

It also sparked a 7-0 run by the Rebels to pull them to within 67-64 late in the second half. Kudos to the young Cats for storming back to take command and ensure their ‘veteran’ leader’s mistake didn’t prove costly.

To Gabriel’s credit, he had one of his best games of the season, finishing with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with two assists, six rebounds and a steal. If he keeps playing like this, UK becomes even more dangerous heading into postseason play.

After the win, Gabriel went to midcourt, grabbed a mic and thanked the fans for a fun season in Rupp. He also added “we got business to take care of Saturday” in reference to UK’s big matchup with the Florida Gators.

UK will need tonight’s Gabriel (sans the technical) to win in Gainesville.
