Kyky Tandy no longer considering Kentucky, trending toward Xavier

Tandy’s recruitment took a nosedive when his father made some unflattering comments.

To no surprise, Kyky Tandy is no longer considering Kentucky.

The Bluegrass star has trimmed his list down to Xavier and Ole Miss, according to Jake Weingarten. Kentucky, Louisville, Florida and Tennessee were among the most notable schools to recruit Tandy earlier this year, and Kentucky coaches watched Tandy during the spring.

But over the summer, they all backed off and focused on other recruits. Part of that probably had to do with Tandy’s father being so outspoken about his son’s recruitment, which probably turned off a lot of programs.

It’s unfortunate, but that’s how it goes in the recruiting world sometimes. It looks like there’s still a decent chance Kentucky will face Tandy on an annual basis if he lands at Ole Miss.

However, the 247 Sports crystal ball has had several predictions for Xavier coming in, including one from Andrew Slater.

The University Heights star is ranked 110th overall in the 2019 class by 247 Sports, and he has offers from Florida, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. While Tandy was excited about a potential offer from John Calipari in the spring, his father, Keith Torian, was a bit more cynical.

“If he does get an offer, he’s not going to Kentucky with three or four point guards there,” Torian told Kyle Tucker of SEC Country over the summer. “He’s not no bench player. And that’s what they think he is. He’ll just come in and play four years. No, no.”

It’s sad that those comments may have helped lead to schools backing off Tandy. Hopefully, he lands somewhere we he reaches his full potential and enjoys his collegiate career.
