UK may very well land an in-state recruit in 2019, but not the one you’re thinking of.
While KyKy Tandy looks like the state’s best prospect, don’t sleep on Dontaie Allen. The Pendleton County star is having a great spring on the AAU circuit, which earned him an invite to the Pangos All-American Camp.
UK assistant Joel Justus has already met with Allen this spring. Now, Allen will return the favor and visit Lexington this summer.
According to Josh Moore of the Lexington Herald-Leader, Allen will take an unofficial visit to UK in June. While on the visit, he’ll also get to scrimmage with current members of the basketball team.
The interest in Allen from colleges everywhere has been ramping up after his breakout junior season, as he averaged 31.8 points per game on 59.1-percent shooting and hot 39.6 percent from deep. He also grabbed 11.4 rebounds per game.
The 6-6, 185-pound Allen is ranked 216th overall in the 2019 class by 247 Sports as a three-star prospect. ESPN gave him a three-star grade as well.
Allen’s current offers include Xavier, IUPUI, Morehead State, Winthrop, and Western Kentucky. Louisville, Cincinnati, Tennessee and Purdue are also showing interest. You have to think that if UK sends him an offer, he’ll seriously consider taking it right on the spot.
Was impressed by Dontaie Allen today. Reminds me a lot of former Purdue forward Vince Edwards. Can shoot it, good decision-maker, handles.
