Tyrese Maxey updates his recruitment, reclassification process

Will Tyrese Maxey move into 2018, or is he sticking to 2019?

The recruitment of Tyrese Maxey has reached overdrive in recent weeks, thanks in large part to the possibility of a reclassification.

Coming into the spring, all of the public focus was on other recruits UK was strongly in the mix for, including E.J. Montgomery and Ashton Hagans. However, both players have since committed to UK and will be on campus this fall.

Now, John Calipari is working to get Maxey to join them. Calipari has visited the five-star point guard twice in a one-week span hoping to seal this recruitment ASAP.

Calipari is also pushing for Maxey to reclassify into the 2018 class, but that’s not quite a done deal.

In an interview with Evan Daniels, Maxey admitted that reclassifying was on the table, but he’s not ready to fully commit to it.

“My family and I have talked about it, but right now we are just trying to finish out the school year and get better,” said Maxey. “Right now we don’t really know. We are just playing it day by day.”

And as far as making a decision goes, Maxey doesn’t sound like he’s in any rush to do so.

“I don’t know as of right now,” he said. “It depends, I’m talking to my family and maybe after this first live period I may cut my list down, but I don’t know.”

While getting Maxey next season would be great, UK should be set in the backcourt if Quade Green returns to join Hagans, Immanuel Quickley, Keldon Johnson, Tyler Herro and Jemarl Baker.
