Vernon Carey just wrapped up his official visit to Kentucky, and now John Calipari is returning the favor.
On Tuesday, Calipari met with Carey, according to Rivals’ Corey Evans. It comes as Carey is set to visit the Duke Blue Devils, one of the perceived leaders in this recruitment.
This is an interesting trend that Calipari has had recently in visiting a recruit right after he takes an official visit to Kentucky. Calipari did the same thing with Scottie Lewis and James Wiseman, and now he’s doing it with Carey.
Carey is the No. 2 player and No. 1 power forward in the class of 2019 on the 247 Sports Composite ratings. Rivals has him at No. 1 overall. He’s 6-10, 275 pounds, and is one the most physical players in the 2019 class that can also hit mid-range shots.
Duke currently leads in his crystal ball, receiving 50 percent of the predictions. Miami and Michigan State are close behind, while Kentucky has gotten just one prediction thus far.
For what it’s worth, KSR’s TJ Walker still thinks Kentucky has jumped into the lead for Carey:
I feel better about UK’s chances than I ever have in the past and I’ve said in the past that I thought UK was the leader. That was a couple months ago, but I still think the Cats are the leader.
Walker goes on to say, “I think Carey ends up at Kentucky unless he’s persuaded on one of his other official visits.”
Carey is currently set to make a decision sometime this fall/winter, so we may soon learn where the elite big man will attend college.
