The Kentucky Wildcats still have one scholarship spot to fill, but it won’t go to Jamie Vinson.
On Sunday, Adam Zagoria reported that Kentucky was no longer in the running for the 3-star prospect.
Then on Monday, Vinson committed to the Texas Longhorns.
On3’s Joe Tipton broke the news first.

Vinson plays for Oak Hill Academy but is an Austin (TX) native, so he’ll be going back home for college. He’s currently ranked 239th nationally, 41st among centers, and 11th in the state of Texas in the class of 2024, according to 247 Sports Composite. And with Texas joining the SEC next season, the former Vanderbilt signee will play in the league after all.
The 6-foot-11, 210-pound center visited Kentucky on May 20th, so there was clearly interest from both sides. Mark Pope is still working to decide how he’ll fill out that final roster spot for next season.
Kentucky is set to host class of 2025 forward Will Riley for an official visit beginning Tuesday. Riley is a strong reclassification candidate, so there’s a chance the final roster spot goes to him.
If not Riley, then it becomes a real mystery as to who the final spot goes to.
