Highlights, MVP, and Twitter reactions from Wildcats’ victory over Tigers

Kentucky improves to 12-2 thanks to an iron-man effort from Tre Mitchell.

The Kentucky Wildcats start 2-0 in SEC play, marking the first time since the 2020-21 season, believe it or not, that the program has started 2-0 or better in conference play.

It was a typical mid-week SEC game that we’ve all grown to love. Kentucky led the vast majority of the game but could never quite put their foot down hard enough to blow out a struggling Missouri team en route to a 90-77 win.

Still, another very solid outing from the offense, which is standard at this point. The defense, again, left a lot to be desired, though it did do better in the second half, just as was the case in the win at Florida.

The duo of Rob Dillingham and DJ Wagner carried the UK backcourt, which saw Antonio Reeves shoot 0/5 from three and Reed Sheppard only have three points on four shot attempts.

Kentucky shot just 30% from 3 on seven made shots but still found a way to put up 90 points, similar to last Saturday against Florida. Encouraging offense keeps being encouraging, and Kentucky was once again strong defensively down the stretch, as the Tigers hit just one of their final 15 field goals.

Highlights

MVP

You could make the case for about four Wildcats as MVP of the game. From Rob Dillingham to DJ Wagner to Tre Mitchell. However, I am going to go with Tre Mitchell as the MVP.

A double-double on the night for the transfer senior, Mitchell had 20 points to go alongside 14 rebounds and three assists, providing a steady pace against a stubborn Missouri team that would not go away.

Mitchell continues to prove he was one of the biggest offseason additions any program made.
