Kentucky continues basketball/football dominance over Florida

Kentucky went to Gainesville and came out on top, again.

The Kentucky Wildcats were down 11 to the Florida Gators on the road in the first half, and they didn’t seem like they had a real path to coming back.

However, they did just that, and late-game 3-ball by Aaron Bradshaw and free throws by Reed Sheppard were the icing on the cake.

The Wildcats beat the Gators 87-85 and could move into the top five when the new rankings come out next week.

That said, Kentucky continues to dominate Florida, a program that is typically competitive, in both football and basketball. It has been almost three years since the Gators have beaten Kentucky in either major sport.

Kentucky Football last fell to the Gators in November of 2020, while the basketball team hasn’t lost to them since February of 2021.

It isn’t necessarily that the Cats continue to win in basketball, but it is the style of victories they have had over the Gators.

During the 2019-20 season before it was canceled by COVID-19, Kentucky trailed by 10 points at the half at Florida and again found a way to come back and come out on top. That time, it was EJ Montgomery who sealed the deal with his late tip-in.

As it turns out, that was the last time Kentucky Basketball won a game after trailing by eight or more points at halftime, according to John Clay of the Lexington Herald-Leader.

That is until the Wildcats won today after trailing by eight at halftime. They were even down six with nine minutes remaining in regulation before rallying for the victory.

This was a terrific effort from Kentucky, and it is a type of hard-nosed victory this team needed to really kick off conference play.

The Cats will be back in action when they take on Missouri on Tuesday. Tip-off for that home game is set for 7 pm ET.
