The Kentucky Wildcats are now officially in their offseason, but one thing we have learned in this new era of college football is recruiting never stops. That will be the case for Mark Stoops and his staff, especially in the portal.
One position that they will be looking to find some players for is at the cornerback spot. With Maxwell Hairston returning and Andru Phillips off to the NFL Draft, not only will Chris Collins and Brad White be looking to add some bodies, but they could be looking for a new starter alongside Hairston.
One name has surfaced for the Cats over the last few days, however, in South Alabama transfer, Marquise Robinson. He entered the portal on Dec. 28th and took to Twitter to announce the news of a UK offer two days later.
After this news, he recently talked with Jacob Polacheck of KSR, and this recruitment is going to move quickly. Luckily for the Cats, they will receive a visit.
“I think I’m going to make Kentucky my second [visit]. It might be on [January] 6, but I have to lock it in,” Robinson told Polacheck. “I’ll have made my [college] decision by [January] 9. I’ll either be deciding on the 9th or any day before then.”
The first visit will be taken to Arkansas, which will start when the visit window reopens for transfer players on January 3rd. Alongside the Cats and Razorbacks, he has also landed offers from Houston, Mississippi State, Tulane, and several others.
Robinson, a 6-1 and 184-pound cornerback originally from Summit (MS), was a JUCO recruit in the class of 2022. He was ranked as a three-star player, and a top-100 JUCO player in the class according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He ultimately chose South Alabama over offers from Memphis, Mississippi Valley State, and Prairie View A&M.
This past season for the Jaguars, Robinson finished with 35 tackles and three pass deflections while also adding three interceptions.
A veteran player that showed some solid ball skills during his time in Mobile. Will he now end up in Lexington?
Another major need for Kentucky in the transfer portal is offensive line depth. With Kenneth Horsey and Jeremy Flax departing, Kentucky could sure use another experienced body, and that may end up being Jacksonville State right tackle Xavier Bausley.
It was recently reported by Josh Edwards of Cats Pause that the 6-foot-5 Bausley would visit Kentucky.
Now, KSR’s Zack Geoghegan reports that Bausley’s visit will come this weekend following trips to West Virginia and Pittsburgh. And once that trip to Lexington concludes, Bausley expects to make a quick decision on his next home, according to Geoghegan.
With three years of remaining college eligibility, Bausley could be a big get for Kentucky for several seasons if he ultimately picks the Cats. Safe to say this will be a big weekend for the future of the Big Blue Wall.
