Big news for Kentucky’s defense.

The Kentucky Wildcats are back on the board in the transfer portal, and this one comes from one of college football’s top programs.

On Wednesday, Alabama Crimson Tide safety Kristian Story announced his commitment to the Wildcats.

A former 4-star recruit in the 2020 class, Story posted the news on Twitter.

The 6-foot-1, 211-pound Story came to Alabama as the 164th-best recruit in the 2020 class. He was actually an athlete recruit who played quarterback in high school before transitioning to safety.

After redshirting his first year, Story would primarily be a special teams player for the next three seasons.

This past season, Story logged 166 defensive snaps and started in two games while recording 15 tackles, one interception, one tackle for loss, and two pass defenses. He earned a respectable 66.7 Pro Football Focus defensive grade. He logged another 102 special teams snaps, 90 of which were on kickoff coverage, and earned a 72.2 PFF special teams grade.

For his career, the Alabama native appeared in 36 games while making 22 total tackles, one interception, two pass defenses, and one tackle for loss.

This one came out of left field, as Story and Kentucky weren’t linked at all prior to his commitment, but it’s a pleasant surprise nonetheless. It’s no secret Kentucky’s secondary needed more depth, and they get it with a former 4-star recruit who’s spent four seasons being developed by Nick Saban.

At a minimum, Story looks like someone who will be a major contributor on special teams while providing depth in the safety position, but I imagine he’ll compete for a starting spot.

Here are some high school highlights of Story in action.
