No one has historically been better than Kentucky Basketball.

It’s been said many times before, and frankly, it can’t be said enough: The University of Kentucky has the best basketball program of all time.

The latest example of this comes from the Associated Press, which is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the AP Top 25 Poll.

For the celebration, the AP reviewed every poll to determine the all-time No. 1 program, and the Kentucky Wildcats came out on top, narrowly edging the North Carolina Tar Heels for the top spot.

Kentucky finished with 17,852 points, while UNC came in with 17,268 points. Coming in behind them were the Duke Blue Devils, Kansas Jayhawks, and UCLA Bruins.

You might be a bit surprised to hear who the next team is. It’s not someone like Indiana, UConn, or Michigan State, but instead, it’s the Louisville Cardinals. So the state of Kentucky sports the No. 1 and No. 6 programs of all time.

The piece also included some thoughts from former Kentucky and Louisville head coach Rick Pitino.

“They all have an awesome following. They all recruit excellence. But it all goes back to the players,” said Pitino. “At Kentucky. every year you can get a great player, from Dan Issel and Pat Riley on down.”

Well said.
