Just one week ago the Kentucky Wildcats looked to be unbeatable. But then last Saturday the then-No. 12 Wildcats lost in rather shocking fashion, 80-73, to UNC-Wilmington at Rupp Arena. Now, the No. 16 Wildcats head to Penn for their first true road matchup of the season. So, what should fans expect from their team as Kentucky looks to bounce back?
It’s no secret that Kentucky is (mostly) everyone’s “Super Bowl” of the year. For the Pennsylvania Quakers, Kentucky is second to only Houston (ranked No. 3) as far as top teams on their schedule — which makes this a major game for the home team.
For Kentucky, last week’s loss could very well cost them a No. 1 seed (should they continue to play at a high level for the remainder of the regular season) and appeared to ruffle some of the players’ feathers. This team has shown a great deal of chemistry already this year and it’s hard to imagine any scenario other than the Wildcats bouncing back with full force.
According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, the Wildcats are being given an 85.5% chance to win. That’s a pretty strong indicator that the Wildcats should win, though Kentucky had an 87.8% chance last Saturday ahead of their matchup with UNC-Wilmington. Kentucky still has to show up and compete for 40 minutes, which there shouldn’t be any doubt that they will.
Tip-off for today’s game is scheduled for Noon ET with television coverage on ESPN2.
