Highlights, MVP, and Twitter reactions as Wildcats smash Redbirds

The Cats pick up the win as they head into SEC play.

The Kentucky Wildcats returned to action in Rupp Arena tonight as they welcomed the Illinois State Redbirds to town. In a game that was never really that close, the Cats cruised to a win, 96-70.

After a week off, it took the Cats a few minutes to settle in on both ends of the floor. If you turned on the TV a few minutes late, it even had a small flashback of how the UNC-Wilmington game started.

The Redbirds were hitting shots, but this time around, the Cats were answering with baskets of their own. Led by Antonio Reeves and DJ Wagner, Kentucky took a 15-point lead into the half at 45-30.

As soon as the second half tipped off, though, it was off to the races. Coach Calipari once again mixed some rotations together to get several players going and it worked once again.

To finish out non-conference play (besides Gonzaga), this Kentucky team has proven to be elite offensively and continues to take steps on defense.

Now, the team's attention will turn to SEC play as they travel to Gainesville for a date with the Florida Gators.

Buckle in BBN. The season is about to take off.

Box Score

This is the moment the Antonio Reeves slander has to stop.

Once again, the super senior caught fire, scoring 27 points on 10/15 shooting (4/8 from three), while also adding six rebounds and two assists on the night.

Reeves has put up 57 points in the last two games, as he continues to lead this offense in scoring. We said before the season that for Kentucky to reach its full potential, Reeves making shots consistently was going to be key.

Well, through the first 12 games, he is one of the hottest offensive players in college basketball.

If this continues into SEC play, it could be a very fun next few months in Lexington.
