Another rising high school basketball star in the Bluegrass State is currently being contacted by the University of Kentucky Wildcats
Gabe Weis, who is a 6-foot-6, 170-pound sophomore from Springfield (KY) is starting to build a better relationship with Kentucky.
Weis is not ranked on any of the major websites, but that will change as he continues to improve his game and finishes growing into his final form while in high school. Once that happens, Weis then will gain momentum on the recruiting trail.
In Weis’ latest game, he had 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks on Wednesday afternoon, according to Zack Geoghegan of KSR.
Through his play, some noticeable schools are very interested in Weis and have already offered him a scholarship, including LSU, Illinois, Cincinnati, Iowa, and others.
With Weis growing up in Kentucky, he admits to being a fan of the Wildcats, and that still has not changed. Although he has not been offered by Kentucky, he has stayed in contact with the coaching staff, primarily Orlando Antigua.
“Coach (Orlando Antigua) is the one who’s been recruiting me,” Weis tells Geoghegan. “I’ve went up for two visits. Our assistant, he talks to Coach O a lot. I’ve talked to him a few times over the phone. It’s been good to get that relationship going and hopefully it can develop a little bit faster here.”
Even with him being from Kentucky, he is still keeping his options open and will be considering other schools before deciding on where he will be committing.
With it still early in Weis’ recruitment, an offer could come down the road at a later time. It’s great to hear that UK is starting to recruit in-state players more often, with the most recent addition being Travis Perry, along with Reed Sheppard playing very well as a current Wildcat
