Rob Dillingham creeping into top-10 NBA Draft pick range

Dillingham and Reed Sheppard have both exploded onto the scene to start the season.

The Kentucky Wildcats have a disappointing loss to UNC Wilmington on their resume, but other than that, they have been far better than most expected.

Hanging with the Kansas Jayhawks and throttling the Miami Hurricanes, just a few highlights of the season, Kentucky’s freshmen have consistently stepped up to the plate. While most have played at a high level, Rob Dillingham has really stood out, especially in the eyes of NBA Draft minds.

That’s why he is the first Wildcats player off the board in the updated SB Nation 2024 NBA mock draft.

Here’s where the Cats are taken.

  • Rob Dillingham to the Charlotte Hornets at No. 7
  • Reed Sheppard to the Miami Heat at No. 14
  • Justin Edwards to the Indiana Pacers at No. 21
  • DJ Wagner to the New Orleans Pelicans at No. 23

The most notable name not listed is Aaron Bradshaw, who was a 5-star recruit and top-10 prospect. He is averaging 10 points per game through two games and shooting 61.5% from the field. Bradshaw could find himself as a top-10 pick if he starts to showcase his sky-high ceiling after missing the first part of the season due to foot surgery.

As for Dillingham, he is averaging 14.1 points per game, the second most on the team. The more impressive aspect of his game so far has been his shooting. He is hitting 51.4% of his attempts from deep, which ranks second on the team, only behind Reed Sheppard. Dillingham is giving off Tyrese Maxey vibes, and Maxey is on pace for another breakout season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

While the current spots for both Edwards and Wagner would be disappointing, the season is long as the stars should have time to showcase their upside as well. They should both be in lottery-pick contention before the season ends.
