The Kentucky Wildcats’ recruiting momentum in the transfer portal continues as the Cats have added to their roster for next season.

Ohio State transfer running back Chip Trayanum has announced that he will be transferring to Kentucky.

Trayanum made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter.

Trayanum was ranked as a 4-star prospect in the 2020 class and was a top-300 recruit. Despite being the No. 5 overall player from the state of Ohio, Trayanum decided to take his talents to Arizona State.

Trayanum rushed for 692 and 10 touchdowns on 5.1 yards per rush. However, the tailback decided to enter the transfer portal shortly after his redshirt freshman season ended and moved back home to play for Ohio State.

As a rotation back in 2023, Trayanum rushed for 373 yards and three touchdowns, one of which was the game-winner against Notre Dame as time expired.

Trayanum has never been the guy, the RB1, throughout his career, but now he is getting a fresh start in Lexington and a real chance at being the guy for the Cats.

As a player, Trayanum is not an explosive play generator, he is more of a pile mover instead of a homerun hitter. He also played some linebacker and was on special teams coverage units, though it’s hard to see that continuing in Lexington if he’s the No. 1 back.

There is no doubt that Kentucky had a clear need for a running back, specifically a power back that can give them more down-to-down efficiency, and Trayanum checks those boxes for the Cats.
