National College Rugby

When it comes to Kentucky Wildcats athletics, is there any greater feeling than beating up on the Louisville Cardinals? It was just two weeks ago when the UK football team ended their regular season on a high note by pulling off a significant upset of the Cardinals.

Then, yesterday, Kentucky’s men’s rugby team won the Division I-AA national championship over Louisville by a score of 43-28. Yes — you read that right.

If handing the Cardinals a second L in as many weeks, it was even sweeter than Kentucky essentially put the game away after taking a 26-0 lead at halftime.

The Wildcats knocked off NC State (quarterfinals, 32-12) and Boston College (semifinals, 51-14) before meeting the Cardinals in the championship game.

For all of the Kentucky fans who love to stick it to Louisville fans, Christmas basically came a month early — twice.
