John Calipari is continuing to recruit hard with visiting five-star guard VJ Edgecombe

John Calipari is hoping to continue building his monster 2024 class by securing a commitment in 5-star guard VJ Edgecombe.

Calipari and assistant coach Orlando Antigua were in to visit the 6-foot-4 guard from Nassau, New York, on Thursday night. This came after the two coaches watched Edgecombe play during the previous week, so that’s two trips in about a one-week span to watch the talented guard.

For much of Edgecombe’s recruitment, St. John’s and Duke were seen as the teams to beat.

However, Kentucky has been making a furious push for the guard, and it appears to be paying off based on what Jack Pilgrim and Trilly Donovan are saying.

The 6-foot-5 guard is a consensus top-10 recruit ranked No. 5 overall by ESPN, On3, and Rivals, while 247 Sports has him No. 6. Baylor, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida State, Alabama, Indiana, Miami, and Florida are among the many scholarship offers he holds.

Edgecombe has already gone on an official visit to St. John’s, Kentucky, Duke, Florida, and Baylor. The last official visit came nearly three weeks ago when he visited St. John’s on November 11th.

As for Kentucky, they offered Edgecombe a scholarship back in September and hosted him for a visit on October 28th.

With a decision not being made and the early signing period passing. Kentucky will have several more months to recruit Edgecombe and continue to make progress.

The next signing period for high school basketball is from April 17th to May 15th of 2024.

If Kentucky can add Edgecombe and beat out the likes of Duke, it would be another massive recruiting win for Calipari and his program, especially with how many head-to-head battles the Blue Devils have won recently.
