Mark Stoops encouraged he will keep the majority of roster intact

The good news for the BBN continues.

The biggest fear for the Kentucky Wildcats after the Mark Stoops news this weekend was surrounded by keeping this roster intact.

With news dropping that your head coach is heading out, one can assume that there was some serious questions coming out of the locker room Saturday night.

Luckily for UK, the relationships Stoops and this staff have built run deep.

In his Monday night radio show, Stoops talked through the upcoming roster and where it stands heading into the first transfer portal window on Dec 4th.

The UK head coach mentioned his No. 1 priority since the A&M conversations concluded has been keeping this roster together. Sounds like it went well, as Stoops said, “I’m extremely encouraged” about keeping the core of the roster intact.

Thus far, Kentucky has lost mostly just seldom-used backups to the transfer portal, including Izayah Cummings and Dekel Crowdus. Jalen Geiger did start this season at safety, though he was replaced down the stretch in favor of other safeties, so for now, Kentucky hasn’t lost anyone expected to be a major contributor in 2024.

It’s no secret this staff is extremely high on several underclassmen on this roster, and are planning on building around them once again next season. When the rumors started to fly Saturday, it was fair to believe that all of those guys would have been gone. Now it sounds like they could still be on the roster for the 2024 season.

Obviously, still a long way to go, but with only one player planning to enter the portal at this point, you have to count that as a win.
