The Kentucky Wildcats will be in the market for a new quarterback, as Devin Leary’s one year as signal caller for the Wildcats is coming to a close.
Van Dyke is a polarizing player, as he had an up-and-down season this past year with the Hurricanes. But could TVD be a fit at Kentucky under Liam Coen?
247 Sports believes so, as they have him on a short list of suitors for the former Hurricane QB.
Mark Stoops and the Wildcats welcomed numerous impactful transfers during the portal era and are primed to be in the running for a new starter at quarterback with Devin Leary likely going to the NFL. Leary came over from NC State last cycle and was Liam Coen’s starter throughout this season. Van Dyke is a good bit bigger than Leary and closer to former Kentucky star quarterback Will Levis in size and skill set. That could be a well-placed match for Coen, who helped develop Levis during his sophomore season two years ago.
Alongside Kentucky, they list Notre Dame, North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, Mississippi State, and Nebraska.
In 2021, Van Dyke threw for 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 10 games, earning ACC Rookie of the Year honors.
However, that’s when Van Dyke began to regress. In nine games during the 2022 season, he threw for 1,835 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
This season, he’s thrown for 2,703 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 11 games. He was benched prior to the game vs. Florida State in favor of Emory Wiliams, who was injured in that game, leading to Van Dyke getting his job back to end the regular season.
