Update: As expected, the Kentucky Wildcats are without DJ Wagner vs. UNC Wilmington due to a lower extremity injury.

Wagner is considered day-to-day.

Kentucky’s next game will be December 9th vs. Penn at Wells Fargo Center.

We have another positive update on the injury stats of one DJ Wagner.

After leaving Kentucky’s blowout win over Miami with an ankle injury, Wagner now reportedly just has some soreness he’s dealing with.

This, according to Adam Zagoria. It’s unclear if Wagner plays Saturday vs. UNC Wilmington.

The 6-foot-4, 192-pound freshman is averaging 13.1 points on 40.7% shooting from the field and 25% from deep, 3.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 26 minutes per game.

Since his 1/12 performance vs. Kansas in just his third collegiate game, Wagner has hit 21/43 shots from the field (48.9%) and 6/19 attempts from deep (31.6%) while dishing out 15 assists, blocking five shots, and snagging five steals in the last four games.

Here’s to hoping Wagner is healthy enough to return by next week’s game in Philadelphia against Penn, who has already beaten No. 18 Villanova this season.

Update: After Kentucky’s 95-73 win over Miami, Justin Edwards offered a positive update on DJ Wagner, who was upbeat after the game.

“He’s good. I know DJ personally. We grew up together,” Edwards said via Ryan Black of the Courier-Journal. “He was telling me he was good. He was laughing and stuff when we walked in there (after the game).”

So for now, it appears the Wildcats and Wagner dodged an injury bullet.

Woah. That’s what the national reaction is right now to what the No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats were doing to the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes, a team that was just in the Final Four, and ended up winning 95-73.

What made the performance even more impressive for the Cats was they were doing this without DJ Wagner for a decent chunk of the game.

Late in the first half, Wagner went down with some type of lower-body injury, and he has yet to play in the second half. UK has since announced he will not return to the game.

The good news is Wagner is apparently fine and was even seen riding the exercise bike in the second half.

Wagner left the game having scored five points on 1/3 shooting (3/4 on free throws) with one block and one assist. He’s coming off his best game as a Cat, scoring 28 points on 10/14 shooting vs. Marshall with five assists, three steals, and one block.

After the game, head coach John Calipari said it was an ankle injury for Wagner but didn’t have any more info.

“I think they (trainers) said his ankle,” said Calipari. “He just didn’t – he wasn’t going to come back, so we were really shorthanded.”

We will update this post as more details come out.
