Kentucky makes some very nice history vs. Marshall

More major offensive milestones for the 2023-24 Wildcats.

Justin Edwards Dylan Ballard - A Sea Of Blue

Update: Kentucky wasn’t done breaking records in the first half.

After scoring 49 points in half No. 2, the Wildcats finished off their best offensive performance ever under John Calipari with a 118-82 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd. Their previous point total was 115 in a 2017 win over Arizona State. That was the Malik Monk/Bam Adebayo/De’Aaron Fox group, so nice company to be in.

And in a game led by DJ Wagner (28 points), Antonio Reeves (23), Tre Mitchell (18), and Rob Dillingham (16), it was freshman Joey Hart who came in at the very end and notched his first collegiate points by knocking down the triple that gave Kentucky its most points under Coach Cal.

It’s still very early in the season, but it’s very clear this group has what it takes to be special.

These Kentucky Wildcats are officially fun.

Ever since the 2023-24 season tipped off, it’s been one offensive milestone after another after another for the basketball Cats, who continue to light up scoreboards at a rate we’ve rarely ever seen in the program’s illustrious history.

You can add another milestone to the record books.

In the first half of Kentucky’s post-Thanksgiving matchup with Marshall, the Wildcats put on one of the best halves of basketball ever seen in Rupp Arena, scoring 69 points on a ridiculous 65% (26/40) shooting clip.

The Cats actually managed to shoot better on 3-pointers (72.7% on 8/11 attempts) than 2s (62.1% on 18/29 attempts) while dishing out 18 assists, so more than half of their makes were assisted en route to taking a 69-41 lead at the break.

And to think, this is before Kentucky gets top-five recruit Aaron Bradshaw onto the floor.

Oh, and according to UK statistician Corey Price, that was a Rupp Arena record for points in a single half.

Very nice, indeed.
