Kentucky’s insane run of 5-star point guards

Boogie Fland is the latest of many talented point guards to land at Kentucky.

Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari is no stranger to getting highly touted players to the NBA Draft, especially guards. It certainly helps when you’re landing a five-star point guard almost every year.

Since taking over at Kentucky, Calipari has now landed 15 five-star point guards at the university, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

The latest was Boogie Fland, who picked the Cats over Indiana and Alabama last Friday.

Some other notable point guards that come to play for Calipari include John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, Marquis Teague, Andrew Harrison, Tyler Ulis, Isaiah Briscoe, and others just to name a few.

Although not all 15 players were mentioned above, Boogie Fland will have to live up to high expectations with many other great point guards coming in before him, but with being from New York that pressure may not faze him due to being from a state that cares about the game of basketball.

Many thought that Fland was an Indiana lock heading into decision week, but about 24 hours prior to his decision, the Kentucky rumblings grew. With Calipari really going all-out down the stretch, he was able to get his guy for the future and beat out the Hoosiers for Fland.

The class of 2024 recruitment isn’t over yet, and Calipari still has plenty of work to do with only having two players currently in the class with Fland and Somto Cyril, but the roster should be filled out come next summer with some highly-touted recruits coming in.
